January - Ban Bottled Water

This January say no to bottled water!

Why ban bottled water?
1. Because plastic water bottles actually have very dangerous chemicals in it, like BPA. It's scientifically proven that when water sits in these bottles some of those chemicals leach into our water! Chemical water anyone?
2. Big corporations such as Nestle and Pepsi Cola own all of the commercially sold water brands such as Poland Spring, Dasani, and Aquafina to just name a few.
3. The water in these handy bottles isn't as "pure" as they make it out to be, in fact one third of bottled water actually comes from the tap!
4. 90% of water in the U.S. is fit to drink, so why are bottled water companies charging 2,000 times more for something we can get from our own sinks virtually for free?!

Another helpful tip, don't freeze your water bottles! It releases toxins into your water poisoning us all the faster!

Here are some ideas for you to try this month, assess what level you are and follow the suggestions.

Level One You have never done this before but want to give it a shot. Here are some ideas for you.
1. Watch the story of bottled water at  http://storyofstuff.org/movies/story-of-bottled-water/
2. If you don't have a water filter already, now would be a good time to invest your money in one.
3. Use reusable water bottles. If you don't have any ideally you can use a glass jar, but if you really must buy something here are a few things to keep in mind: No aluminum coating, aluminum is bad for the body for numerous reasons and a build up over time may even lead to Alzheimer's disease. Any glass bottle is fine, there's no coating and no health risks the one down side is it's rather fragile. Stainless steel water bottles are also a very good choice, there is no coating and no BPAs they are mainly sold by Klean Kanteen.
4. Try to take a reusable water bottle in the place of a bottled one and feel proud in the fact that you just did a small part to make the world a better place.

Level Two Ok you know a thing or two about bottled water but occasionally give in and buy a bottle or two. Here are some ideas to take it to the next level.
1. Watch the story of bottled water at http://storyofstuff.org/movies/story-of-bottled-water/
2. Tell your friends the evils of bottled water.
3. Try to get your purchase of plastic water bottles down to zero this month.

Level Three Alright so you're an expert, good for you! Here are a few things to push it to the extreme.
1. Watch the story of bottled water at http://storyofstuff.org/movies/story-of-bottled-water/ and if you are so inspired hold a viewing party for that movie.
2. Check out the website http://tappedthemovie.com/ it has all sorts of important information.
3. Your assignment is to pick up 10 water bottles a week this month.
