GMO Labeling Now!

GMOs are at best a controversial subject, and at worst enough to cause a fight. GMOs go under the subject of unsafe kitchen products, because, quite frankly, they aren't safe! The creators of GMOs have spent millions of dollars to convince us of their safety, but independent studies are proving the exact opposite.

So, what even is GMO?
GMOs ,or Genetically Modified Organisms, are plants or animals that have had a gene from another organism spliced into their genetic makeup. At this point in time we have cabbage with scorpion venom genes, oranges with pig genes, and corn with bacteria genes. Despite claims that GM crops are drought resistant and fine for your health, there is growing evidence of the exact opposite.

How are GMOs bad for your health?

  1. The health consequences for eating Genetically Modified Organisms are largely unknown do to the lack of unbiased scientific studies.
  2. Genetically engineered foods have not been proven to be safe, but the few studies conducted don't look so great.
  3. GM crops require massive amounts of pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. So even if GM crops weren't bad for you on their own, all those chemicals have soaked into the plants making it toxic to  us!
All of this fighting on the issue of GMOs could be solved by the simple act of just labeling them! By putting a label on foods saying "may contain GMO" or "contains GMO" would allow consumers to choose for themselves to eat the product or not. But the corporations creating GMOs come up with the weak excuses such as: "labeling GMOs would just confuse consumers", and when that didn't work "It costs to much to label GMOs"! Oh the poor baby billionaires, imagine them paying their "hard earned" profits to add a tiny little label on their products!
Now, a very terrifying new development is the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling act, nicknamed by some the DARK act (Deny Americans the Right to Know act), it was introduced in April to the Subcommittee On Health. This act if passed into law would deny any shape or form of labeling genetically engineered foods, keeping us in the dark about our food!
This video on just label it, about sums up the situation we are in right now without GMO labeling laws.
